FIELD NOTES

Before the goals, look at the minutes.

Why context matters when comparing football records.

A total is only the beginning.

A player with more goals may also have played more minutes. Start by checking exposure: how much football does each record actually contain? This game shows minutes alongside goals and assists so the comparison is not hidden.

Compare like with like.

A defender and a forward earn different points for a goal. Compare players within a position before comparing raw totals across the entire database. Read the rules rather than assuming every event has the same weight.

Do not fill gaps with confidence.

xG and xA require a reliable event source and a documented model. They are deliberately unavailable here. Missing data is not zero, and an invented estimate would not improve a decision.

Separate evidence from prediction.

Six fictional rounds let you learn the interface and scoring model. They do not establish real player form or forecast future transfers. A licensed dataset will need provenance and update timestamps.
